West Coast HomeCare and Alzheimer's Australia SA have joined in a partnership to provide local information, education and a support service to those affected by memory loss.

The Link Worker is available to speak to groups and individuals, a first such country regional service. For further information please contact West Coast HomeCare on 86822177.

Lower Eyre Activity Program (L.E.A.P.) formally known as Cummins Recreational Group, is held the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month at Miroma Place Hostel Recreational Room. Doors open at 1.30pm for a 2.00pm start. The Social Support Program is funded by Home and Community Care (HACC) through West Coast HomeCare.

Enjoy a variety of activities nominated by participants at the yearly planning day..

Any changes to the program will be advertised on ABC, 5LN, 5CC & Magic FM radio and advertised in the Port Lincoln Times.

Cost -A gold coin donation from community participants is appreciated.

West Coast HomeCare is pleased to announce the launch of our new Broadband Kiosk which was officially opened by Mr Peter Treloar, MP, in November 2010. The Kiosk features two computers with broadband access for people over 50 years of age.

Broadband for Seniors is part of the wider Australian Government initiative "Making Ends Meet - Plan for Older Australians, People with Disabilities and Carers".

Broadband for Seniors Kiosk aims to

• Provide older Australians access to computers and the internet via free internet kiosks
• Support older Australians to gain confidence and build skills in using new technology
• Address the issue of older Australians feeling isolate and 'left behind' in a technological age
• Build community participation and social inclusion amongst older Australians

Free training can be arranged which includes

• Computer lessons
• Internet services like email, Skype and searching with Google.

Eyre Connections is a program developed from the ’Outside the HACC Square Social Support’ Project. The project was an initiative of West Coast HomeCare, supported by once off Innovative Ideas Funding from Home and Community Care (HACC). The program will change the Home and Community Care Social Support model to a ‘service of choice’ for consumers and carers.  The new model aims to reconnect consumers to the local community and provide individualised/flexible social support.

West Coast Community Services Inc. has purchased a Toyota Tarago 'people mover' to provide access to activities of choice, and volunteer support can be provided if consumers require assistance to participate in chosen activities. Australian Red Cross and Matthew Flinders Home Inc. are our collaborative partners in the program.  Australian Red Cross are providing drivers for the Toyota Tarago, and Matthew Flinders Home Inc. are providing access to a venue, and links into existing programs.
