Care Worth Celebrating

Do you know a WCHC worker whose care is worth celebrating?

Every day, West Coast Homecare employees make a positive difference through their compassion, dedication, teamwork and commitment to the people we support.

Help us recognise and celebrate those who go above and beyond by nominating an employee, team, or community contributor.

Every nomination counts.

All eligible nominees will be acknowledged, with outstanding nominations progressing to quarterly recognition and the annual Care Worth Celebrating Awards.

Exceptional care happens every day, often through small actions that make a lasting difference.

The Care Worth Celebrating program recognises those connected with West Coast Homecare who demonstrate outstanding commitment to older people, people living with disability, their families and communities across the Eyre Peninsula.

By sharing and celebrating these stories, we make recognition timely and visible, highlight the incredible work happening every day, and showcase the skill, dedication and heart of our workforce.

  • Bring West Coast Homecare's values and expected behaviours to life.

  • Strengthen workforce engagement, pride and connection.

  • Give clients and families a meaningful way to acknowledge excellent support.

  • Share positive stories across the organisation and community, with consent.

  • Promote aged care and disability support as skilled, valuable and rewarding work.

Who Can Be Recognised?

The program is designed primarily to recognise WCHC employees. Nominations may also acknowledge teams, associate providers, community partners, clients or carers whose contribution has strengthened care, inclusion or service improvement.

STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE

We are leaders in care. We listen and learn, seeking continuous feedback from our customers, contractors and networks to deliver high quality services that meet the needs of local people.

LOCAL AT HEART

Our people live local, work local, know local. We connect people with the best local service choices, enabling them to continue the lifestyle they enjoy.

CONSUMER & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We prioritise people above all else. Whether it is our staff, our customers, or our community, we support and encourage people to be involved in designing and improving care and services.

BEST PRACTICE

We maintain current industry knowledge to be at the forefront in delivering safe inclusive quality care and services.

EMBRACE DIVERSITY

We believe everyone is deserving of a happy and healthy life, and we appreciate the diversity within our community. We strive to deliver fair and equitable support for all, by supporting people to maintain control and influence over their life.

How the program works

Recognition is simple, accessible and available throughout the year.

  1. NOTICE IT: See an action, attitude or contribution that deserves recognition.

  2. NOMINATE IT: Tell us who made a difference, what they did and why it mattered.

  3. CELEBRATE IT: Every eligible nominee received timely acknowledgement.

  4. SHARE IT: Selected stories are shared internally or publicly when consent is provided.

  5. RECOGNISE EXCELLENCE: Strong nominations progress to quarterly and annual awards.

Who can nominate?

  • Clients and their families or carers

  • Employees and managers

  • Board members

  • Health professionals, associate providers and partner organisations

  • Other members of the community

Ways to nominate

Nominations may be submitted at any time through WCHC's online form, written, email or telephone.

A WCHC employee can assist where accessibility support is required.

A strong nomination answers three questions

  • Who are you recognising?

  • What did they do?

  • What difference did it make?

  • Include a specific example and, where possible, identify the WCHC value demonstrated.

Recognition Categories

Categories make it easier to describe the contribution. Nominators may select the best fit; the assessment panel can move a nomination where another category is more appropriate.

Recognition throughout the year

Everyday recognition

Recognition should happen close to the moment. Every eligible nominee becomes part of Care Worth Celebrating and receives:

  • A personalised certificate of thanks.

  • Acknowledgement from the Executive Team.

  • Recognition through appropriate WCHC channels, such as Employment Hero, recognition boards, Conversations, the WCHC website or social media.

  • An optional feature story, subject to consent.

  • Entry into quarterly and annual recognition.

Timeliness Standard

Every eligible nomination should be acknowledged within two weeks of receipt wherever practical.

Quarterly Care in Action Program

A recognition panel reviews nominations every three months and selects stories that best demonstrate:

  • Positive impact on a client, family, team or community.

  • Alignment with WCHC values.

  • Respect for choice, dignity, inclusion and cultural safety.

  • Initiative, collaboration or continuous improvement.

  • A contribution beyond normal expectations.

Quarterly recipients receive a certificate, a small locally sourced gift and an invitation to an informal recognition event.

Annual Care Worth Celebrating Awards

The strongest quarterly nominations become finalists in the annual Care Worth Celebrating Awards. Winners are announced at a workforce celebration aligned, where practical, with Aged Care Employee Day (August) while ensuring disability support employees and the wider care community are equally included.

Annual Celebration

A shared celebration of excellence, learning and local impact.

The annual event provides a visible moment to honour people, tell stories and reinforce the behaviours that make WCHC care distinctive.

Finalists and award: Presentation of category finalists and annual award recipients.

Stories of impact: Client, family and workforce stories shared with informed consent.

Growth and service: Recognition of long service, qualifications and professional development.

Team milestones: Celebration of collective achievements and service improvements.

Community contribution: Acknowledgement of associate providers and community partners.

Shared visibility: Photography and local media activity where participants have consented.

Suggested Nomination Question

Tell us about care worth celebrating:

  • Who are you recognising?

  • What did they do, how did it make a difference, and which West Coast Homecare value did they demonstrate?

Nominations should focus on a specific example rather than general praise.

Clear examples help the panel understand the impact and make fair decisions.

Assessment Approach

A small panel with an Executive Manager, client or carer and board representation assesses quarterly and annual nominations.

Panel members declare conflicts of interest and do not score nominations where a conflict exists.

Fair, Safe & inclusive recognition

Recognition must protect people, reflect WCHC values and remain fair across roles, locations and working arrangements.

  • Protect client and workforce privacy and confidentiality.

  • Obtain informed written consent before publishing names, photographs or personal stories.

  • Keep complaints, incidents, safeguarding and mandatory reporting matters within established governance processes.

  • Provide equal opportunity for recognition across roles, locations, service streams, employment arrangements and working hours.

  • Use accessible nomination options and offer assistance where required.

  • Assess the demonstrated action and impact - not popularity, seniority or writing quality.

  • Ensure recognition complements, and never substitutes for, fair remuneration, supervision, feedback and development.

Measures of Success

Measure - What WCHC Can Monitor

Participation: Number and source of nominations; coverage across teams, locations and service streams.

Client Voice: Proportion of nominations submitted by clients, families and carers.

Fairness: Workforce awareness, confidence in the process and perceived fairness.

Visibility: Engagement with internal and public recognition stories.

Workforce Impact: Relevant engagement, retention and development trends.

Practice Improvement: Examples of recognised approaches being adopted more widely.
